The vaccine given in chlorinated water protects no one
Lesson text
The action is simple, but a mistake with the water can nullify all the effort.
The birds drink, then you think you are covered, while nothing has taken.
Vaccination often fails silently, because the water destroys or blocks the vaccine.
Health guides distinguish between live vaccines and inactivated vaccines, which are not given in the same way.
On the ground, the risk of nullification mainly concerns vaccines that have passed through water.
The most well-known mistake is chlorinated water, because it can neutralise the vaccine.
Because we want clean water, and the intention is good, but the result fails.
Chlorinated water is not the only culprit: dirty equipment also nullifies.
A dirty container brings in impurities that spoil the preparation before it circulates.
Even good water fails if the birds are sick on the scheduled day.
And if part of the batch does not drink, that part remains unprotected.
That is why a vaccination can fail without immediate mortality or spectacular signs.
Guides also remind us of the cold chain, as heat spoils a vaccine.
For us, this vigilance matters even more, because heat accelerates mistakes.
A preparation that is too diluted also weakens the result, especially if the whole batch does not drink.
We think we have vaccinated everyone, while we have only distributed water.
The real objective is not to pour, but to protect each bird in the batch.
So, before the action, you check the water, the equipment, the batch, then the cold.
Then, you observe if all are really drinking, as that is where everything is at stake.
Otherwise, you repeat an expense, work, and the health risk remains intact.
Correct water, clean equipment, suitable batch, cold respected: these are the four locks.
And at your place, where does the vaccine water come from? From the tap, the well, or a jerrycan?
