Commercially, the month of Ramadan is an important period for the Ivorian poultry sector: iftar meals, often shared with family or neighbours, support the consumption of chicken and eggs, and the celebration that concludes the month is traditionally accompanied by festive purchases. For a poultry farmer, it is a sales window that needs to be prepared seriously.
A particularity: shifting dates
Unlike Christmas, Ramadan shifts each year on the calendar. The first step in your planning: check the scheduled dates for the current year, well in advance. It is this starting point that allows the countdown to unfold: target sales date, minus the duration of the rearing cycle of your breed, minus the pre-order period for the day-old chicks.
The pre-order period, a often forgotten link
At NEXTEKCI, pre-orders are made at least 15 days before departure on Monday or Thursday — and 3 to 4 weeks during periods of high demand. However, by definition, the approach of a major consumption period is a time of high demand: schedules fill up. The farmer who reserves early secures their place; the one who waits risks missing the departure they needed.
Broilers and layers: two strategies
For broiler chickens, the goal is to have a flock at the target weight during the period, with the breed suited to your clientele — white broiler for volume in short cycles, red broiler, barred grey or hybrid for the firm chicken appreciated in family meals. For eggs, widely used in iftar preparations, the stakes are much higher upstream: a flock of layers must be in production at the right time, which means having ordered your brown layers many months in advance.
Logistics remain unchanged
Departures on Monday and Thursday at 10 PM from Agnibilékrou, arrival in Abidjan (Yopougon) on Tuesday and Friday by 6 AM, agreed drop-off points on other routes, boxes of 50 with lot identification: the circuit remains the same throughout the year. It is up to you to take it at the right time.
