Field exercise: carry out the health audit of your farm and write the correction plan

Eight lessons of rules, figures and registers are worth nothing until they have been laid on your own ground. This exercise has you carry out, in half a day, the health audit of your farm with the 25-point grid of lesson 8, calculate your score out of 50, read it chapter by chapter, then write the correction plan you will present to your owner and your veterinarian of the area. There is no good score to reach to pass the exercise: success is a grid filled in honestly, a "seen" line for every point, and a correction plan with names, dates and proofs. The one-house farm does the same exercise as the three-house farm: the grid adapts, honesty does not.

  • ✓Calculate and read the overall and per-chapter score, and draw up the list of zeros
  • ✓Write the correction plan and organise the re-audit

  3. Step 2: the audit sheet to fill in
  4. Step 3: calculate and read the result
  5. Step 4: write the correction plan
  6. Step 5: the re-audit and what follows
  7. Going further
Key points of this lesson
  • •The audit is done on an ordinary day, without warning, in two to three hours, in the order of the grid (gate → houses → water and feed → animals → registers) and in the order of age of the houses; the auditor passes through the anteroom like everyone else and fixes nothing during the audit.
  • •For each point: a gesture (hand, finger, tape measure, register open and lines counted), a score 0/1/2, a numbered "seen" line, a photo if 0 or 1; the proof is a trace checkable by someone else, not a memory.
  • •Score out of 50 and per chapter out of 10; list of zeros; traps: chapter at zero despite a correct score (especially water), very high score the first time, low score that is only the photo of a starting point.
  • •Correction plan: ten lines at most, all the zeros first, precise gesture, person responsible, deadline, expected proof, verification date; presented to the owner, passed to the veterinarian, posted with the date of the re-audit.
  • •Re-audit at six weeks (score < 35) or three months; full grid; honest progress of 5 to 10 points per quarter; the audit follow-up table and the six registers are what is shown to the buyer, the slaughterhouse and the bank.
