The technician's ethics: honesty about results, the bird first, the vet as a partner
A technician can know everything and do harm. All it takes is rounding off an FCR so that his flock looks good, letting a flock suffer from the heat because reducing the number "would lose the boss money", giving a product to a sick flock to avoid calling the vet, or recommending a piece of equipment because he gets a commission. None of these faults requires ignorance; all of them require a small arrangement with oneself. Ethics is not a chapter of morals: it is the set of rules that make it possible to rely on what a technician says and does, even when nobody is watching. This lesson sets them out, with eight real situations and an expert's answer.
