“Do you have Sasso?”, “I’m looking for Kuroiler”, “What is your black broiler?”: in the Ivorian field, the same chicks circulate under several names. The result: many poultry farmers hesitate when it comes to ordering. This article clarifies the vocabulary, with the exact equivalents of the NEXTEKCI range.
Why so many different names?
The names “Sasso” and “Kuroiler” originally refer to specific brands and genetic programmes. But in Côte d'Ivoire, usage has transformed them into generic names: “Sasso” often refers to any rustic red broiler, and “Kuroiler” to a broiler with dark plumage. Local names such as “red chicken”, “black broiler” or “improved local hybrid” are also added.
NEXTEKCI does not sell these brands: our breeds belong to the same family of coloured broilers, with clear correspondences.
NEXTEKCI equivalents, name by name
“Sasso” or “red chicken” → premium red broiler
What farmers seek under these names corresponds at NEXTEKCI to premium red broiler: a rustic red/red broiler chick, very well adapted to the tropical climate, with firm meat highly appreciated in the local market.
“Kuroiler” or “black broiler” → premium barred grey
The dark-plumaged broiler chick sought under “Kuroiler” is comparable to our premium barred grey: a traditional improved strain with grey-black barred plumage, perfect for free-range and backyard farming, renowned for its hardiness.
“Improved local hybrid” → premium hybrid
This term refers to a crossbred broiler, more rustic than the industrial white broiler. At NEXTEKCI, it is the premium hybrid: a mix of colours (red, barred grey or speckled) that combines growth, robustness and good market value.
“Coloured broiler” → the umbrella term
“Coloured broiler” encompasses all coloured broilers, as opposed to the white broiler: at NEXTEKCI, it therefore includes the red broiler, the barred grey and the hybrid.
And what about the other breeds in the range?
To complete the glossary: the white broiler NEXTEKCI is a Cobb 500 type chick, a reference for intensive farming in short cycles. The white cockerel refers to male chicks, an ideal economical option for starting out. The brown layer, sexed female with a reliability of around 99%, is intended for egg production and vaccinated against Marek's disease from the hatchery.
How to order without making a mistake
When ordering via WhatsApp at +225 07 07 72 78 67, there is no need to know the “official” name: simply describe what you are looking for (“red chicken for the backyard”, “black broiler for free-range”), and the NEXTEKCI advisor will translate it to the corresponding breed. Then specify the quantity in boxes of 50 chicks and your delivery city.
Remember the essentials: behind the popular names, there are well-identified families of breeds. At NEXTEKCI, each chick leaves the hatchery in Agnibilékrou manually sorted and fed from hatching — regardless of the name your market gives it.
