Brown layer: starting your egg production in Côte d'Ivoire

Reliable sexing at 99%, Marek vaccination at the hatchery, high laying rate: why the NEXTEKCI brown layer is the foundation of a serious egg project and how to get started.

Brown layer: starting your egg production in Côte d'Ivoire

Eggs sell all year round, and a well-managed laying project is one of the most consistent models in Ivorian poultry farming. But it all starts with a decisive choice: the quality of the laying chicks. Here’s what you need to know about the NEXTEKCI brown layer before launching your egg production.

A breed dedicated to egg production

The NEXTEKCI brown layer is specially selected for laying: high laying rate, commercial calibre eggs, and remarkable longevity. This is a different logic from that of broiler breeds — here, we do not rear for rapid growth, but for months of regular production.

This is also why the initial investment must be secured: an error in the quality or sex of the chicks will be paid for throughout the cycle.

Sexing: receiving females, not surprises

At NEXTEKCI, the sexing of brown layers is done visually with a reliability of about 99%, in accordance with industry practices. You therefore receive females, future layers. This is the only female-sexed breed in the range — broiler breeds are delivered in a mixed male/female ratio, and the white cockerel groups the males.

Vaccinated against Marek from the hatchery

Another specificity of the layer: it is vaccinated against Marek's disease right from the hatchery in Agnibilékrou, with a certificate available upon request. This vaccination must be done at the very beginning of the chick's life — it cannot be caught up at the farm. For an animal destined to produce for a long time, this early protection is essential, and its traceability is ensured: batches are monitored from hatching, vaccination history is tracked.

Properly sizing your order

The rules are the same as for the entire range: each box contains exactly 50 chicks; a minimum of 1 box for collection at the hatchery in Agnibilékrou, 4 boxes (200 chicks) for delivery by carrier, including to Abidjan (Yopougon), where arrivals take place on Tuesday and Friday from 6am.

A tip for anticipation: pre-order at least 15 days before departure (Monday or Thursday), and 3 to 4 weeks during peak demand periods. A laying project needs planning — the building must be ready for the arrival of the chicks.

Starting up: the same requirements as for broilers

A future layer starts like any day-old chick: heated chick rearing house before arrival, dry and non-toxic litter, quick access to warm water, controlled density, and observation during the first hours. The NEXTEKCI WhatsApp support will assist you for 72 hours after receipt, and the team can guide you to partner veterinarians and technicians for the follow-up of your flock.
