Many beginners order their chicks before thinking about the equipment — and find themselves improvising makeshift feeders the day before arrival. However, the basic equipment is simple, and gathering it in advance makes all the difference. Here is the reasoned list.
The essential quartet
Four families of equipment structure a chick rearing area: feeders, drinkers, heating, and ventilation. These are exactly the categories of farming equipment offered by NEXTEKCI in addition to its chicks. There is no need to aim for sophisticated equipment for a first flock: what matters is that each function is properly ensured from day one.
Feeders and drinkers: the right quantity in the right place
The rule is not to have the most beautiful equipment, but to have enough. Each chick must be able to eat and drink without queuing: competition at water and feed points widens growth gaps and increases stress. Distribute feeders and drinkers throughout the room, at short distances from each other, and adjust their height as they grow. Also plan for daily cleaning: equipment that is easy to wash is equipment that will actually be washed.
Heating: the equipment that cannot wait
A day-old chick does not yet regulate its temperature. The heat source must be reliable, tested before the arrival of the batch, and turned on before reception — never after. Plan for a backup solution in case of failure, and a room without drafts. The behaviour of the chicks remains your best thermometer: huddled in a pile, they are cold; away from the source, it is too hot; well distributed, the temperature is good.
Buy smart, cheap, and twice
The classic mistake is to under-equip to save money, then to urgently buy again. Size your equipment based on the actual number ordered — NEXTEKCI chicks arrive in boxes of 50, which makes calculations easier — and keep a small margin for the next flock if you plan to continue.
