Every year, it's the same story: in December, everyone wants chicken, and those who have it for sale make good business. But the celebrations are not won in December — they are won weeks earlier, at the time of ordering the chicks. Here’s how to get ahead.
The golden rule: the countdown calendar
Start from your target sales date and work backwards:
- the sales date: the days leading up to the year-end celebrations;
- the rearing duration of your breed, from day-old chick to marketable chicken;
- the reception date of the chicks that follows;
- the pre-order date, even earlier — and this is where many get caught out.
Why pre-order so early?
Under normal circumstances, NEXTEKCI asks for pre-orders at least 15 days before departure. But during periods of high demand, the official guideline changes to 3 to 4 weeks in advance. And the end of the year is precisely the time when all farmers want chicks at the same time: hatchery schedules fill up quickly.

Which breed for the festive market?
The celebrations particularly value coloured chicken: red broiler (the “red chicken”), barred grey (the “black meat”) and hybrid offer firm meat that is highly appreciated in the local market. The white broiler remains relevant for volume and the circuits that buy in quantity. The ideal: know your market and, why not, mix.
Also prepare logistics and the room
- Departures remain fixed: Monday and Thursday at 10 PM, arrival the next morning according to your route;
- minimum 4 boxes (200 chicks) for a delivery by transport, 1 box for collection in Agnibilékrou;
- and as always: heated room before arrival, warm water, dry litter, starter feed ready. A festive flock that fails at the start is a double loss.
