Raising chicks in the rainy season: precautions that save the flock

Humidity, wet litter, cold night spells: the rainy season puts chicks to the test. Concrete precautions to protect your flock.

Raising chicks in the rainy season: precautions that save the flock

The rainy season is good for the fields, much less so for poorly prepared chick houses. Constant humidity, soaked litter, cooler nights: all conditions that promote diseases and growth delays in young birds. Here’s how to get through the season without losses.

The number one enemy: wet litter

Wet litter is the starting point for most rainy season problems: it cools the chicks, releases ammonia, and harbours germs. Check the litter every day — this is a basic rule of the NEXTEKCI protocol, even more critical in the rain. Remove soaked areas immediately, replenish with dry litter, and track down water sources: leaking gutters, overflowing drinkers, damaged roofing, runoff water entering through the ground.

Heat and drafts: the duo to watch

Rainy nights lower the temperature, sometimes drastically. A day-old chick does not yet regulate its temperature: the heat source must be reliable and the room protected from drafts, while not being confined. Observe the behaviour of the flock, your best thermometer: chicks huddled together are cold; well-spread, the atmosphere is good. Also anticipate breakdowns: a torn tarpaulin or a power cut at the wrong moment can be costly.

The day of reception in the rain

NEXTEKCI departures take place on Monday and Thursday at 10 PM, with delivery on Tuesday or Friday morning on your route. In the rainy season, pay attention to reception logistics: a vehicle or shelter to protect the boxes during the journey, a heated room before arrival, warm water ready. Stay reachable on WhatsApp: coordination with the carrier is even more useful when the weather complicates the roads.

Hygiene, even stricter

Humidity promotes the spread of germs. Reinforce the basic rules: dedicated shoes for the chick house, hand washing, visitors limited to the strict minimum, drinkers cleaned daily.
