Most diseases do not appear in a farm: they enter. Through a shoe, a hand, a visitor, borrowed equipment. Biosecurity is the set of barriers that stop them at the door. And the good news is that it mainly relies on discipline, not on large resources.
Barrier No. 1: limit entries
This is the golden rule of the NEXTEKCI guide: limit entries into the poultry house.
- Dedicated shoes for the chick rearing area — those that go to the market do not enter;
- hand washing before any contact with the flock;
- visitors reduced to a minimum, especially if they frequent other farms.
Every person who enters is a potential vector. Fewer entries = less risk.
Barrier No. 2: a clean room before each flock
Between two flocks, the room must be cleaned and then disinfected. But beware of the trap identified by the NEXTEKCI team among the 3 critical errors of the first week: installing the chicks immediately after disinfection. Completely ventilate the room before installing the flock — residues of disinfectant are themselves a danger.
Barrier No. 3: water, feed and litter
- clean water at all times, drinkers cleaned every day;
- feed kept dry, protected from rodents — rats and mice are carriers of diseases;
- dry, clean and non-toxic litter, checked daily: moisture is the ally of all sanitary problems.
Barrier No. 4: protect the room itself
Choose a calm and secure area, protected from predators and wild birds, which can transmit diseases to domestic poultry. A well-closed room protects against both stress and contamination.
Barrier No. 5: observe to detect early
Biosecurity includes early detection. Observe your flock morning and evening: behaviour, appetite, droppings, isolated individuals. A problem detected on day 1 can be managed; discovered on day 4, it must be endured. Immediately isolate any suspect individual.
The reflex that completes everything: do not stay alone
Abnormal mortality, unusual symptoms: do not guess and do not treat randomly. Send photos and videos to WhatsApp Infos NEXTEKCI — support covers 72 hours after receipt and the team remains good advice beyond that, with hygiene and biosecurity micro-guides available on request.
