The role of the health technician: prevent, monitor, alert, document (never treat alone)
In level 9 you learned the health of one house: the agents, the thresholds, the observation of a dead bird, the report to the vet. This specialisation changes scale: you become the person responsible for the health of a farm with several houses, different ages, staff, visitors, trucks, and a veterinarian of the area who counts on you. The job comes down to four verbs and one prohibition: prevent, monitor, alert, document, and never treat alone. This first lesson draws the exact line between what you do and what the veterinarian does, then describes your day, your registers and your tools on a model farm of three houses that we will follow through the ten lessons.

- •The farm health technician keeps the farm closed to germs and detects early; on several houses of different ages, this role must be distinct from production.
- •Four verbs with a proof each: prevent (signed biosecurity sheets), monitor (daily sheets and dashboard), alert (time-stamped message), document (six registers).
- •The line: the technician describes, isolates, samples on request, applies and notes; the veterinarian of the area diagnoses, prescribes, decides the vaccination programme and informs the veterinary services.
- •Sanitary forward flow: from the youngest to the oldest, from the healthy to the suspect, footbath between each house; pure monitoring of about 2 h 20 per day for three houses of 1,200 birds.
- •Always three lines: Observed, Orientation, Conclusion: none, that is for the veterinarian.
