Knowing your markets: markets, restaurants, shops, wholesalers, festivals and calendar
Two farmers sell the same flock, the same week, twenty kilometres apart. The first called a wholesaler the day before and sells everything at the wholesaler's price. The second has six customers who were waiting for him, each for part of the lot, and he sells at his own price. The difference comes neither from the chicken nor from luck: it comes from the second one knowing his markets, their needs, their rhythm and their calendar. This lesson describes the sales channels of Côte d'Ivoire, the calendar of demand peaks, and the method for building, flock after flock, a split that depends on nobody.
