Formulation: needs by phase, raw material tables, the Pearson square method
Formulating means answering a simple question: how many kilos of each raw material go into 100 kg so that the feed brings exactly what the bird needs at its age? To answer it you need three things: knowing what the bird needs (the needs by phase), knowing what each bag brings (the raw material tables), and a calculation method you can set out in a notebook, without a computer: the Pearson square. This lesson gives all three, with two examples worked from start to finish. Level 7 taught you to read nutrients; here, you learn to put them together.

This lesson is part of Level 11 — Making feed on the farm. It opens to registered students who have passed the level 10 exam. Levels 1 to 5 and the tracks remain readable by everyone.
- ✓Read a table of needs by phase (energy, protein, lysine, methionine, calcium, available phosphorus) and choose the targets of a feed
- ✓Use a table of local raw materials with their average values and their inclusion limits
- ✓Set out and solve a two-ingredient Pearson square to reach a protein content
- ✓Extend the method to a third ingredient by fixing the small quantities first, then check the energy of the mix obtained
