Equipment: grinder, mixer, scale, and the order of incorporation
A formula that is right on paper is only worth something if the workshop respects it to the kilo for the maize and to the gram for the methionine. Between the two, there are three machines and a method: a grinder that gives the right fineness, a scale that tells the truth, a mixer that puts the 750 grams of DL-methionine everywhere in the 500 kg, and an order of incorporation that stops the salt staying at the bottom. This lesson describes each piece of equipment, what it must do, how it is set and how it is checked, then runs through the making of a 500 kg batch step by step.

This lesson is part of Level 11 — Making feed on the farm. It opens to registered students who have passed the level 10 exam. Levels 1 to 5 and the tracks remain readable by everyone.
- ✓Describe the three machines of a farm workshop (grinder, mixer, scale), their settings and their checks
- ✓Choose the grinding fineness according to the birds' age and recognise grinding that is too fine or too coarse
- ✓Apply the order of incorporation and the pre-dilution of small ingredients, then the mixing time suited to the mixer
- ✓Organise the workshop (building, safety, maintenance) so that it makes, every day, a feed identical to the formula
