Mash, crumbs, pellets: feed form and waste
Two bags can have exactly the same composition and give two different flocks, simply because one is mash and the other is pellets. The form of the feed decides what the chicken really swallows, what it sorts, what it throws into the litter and the energy it spends eating. Waste, for its part, is the most silent loss on the farm: nobody sees it, and it often costs 5 to 10% of the feed.
